An official update for the Cortana voice assistant in Windows 11 has effectively removed it. Users now see a message stating: “Cortana in Windows as a standalone app is deprecated.”
On its support website, Microsoft explains that Cortana will still be available in apps like Outlook and Microsoft Teams — but not for long. These services will also gradually remove Cortana as the company shifts its priorities toward Bing, Windows Copilot, and broader AI integration.
“We will no longer support Cortana in Windows as a standalone application starting August 2023,” Microsoft states. However, Windows and Edge will continue offering powerful productivity features enhanced by advanced AI capabilities. The company emphasizes its intention to keep innovating and expanding AI tools to make users’ work faster and more efficient.
According to Microsoft, Cortana will soon be removed from all versions of Windows.
Apple’s Siri, a “sister” to Cortana, still functions despite being somewhat outdated. Apple is developing new AI technologies, but they have not yet advanced enough to fully replace Siri as an intelligent voice assistant.
